Most important piece of the English composer, Dido and Aeneas was presented for the first time in Recife. Purcell’s music underscores the tragedy of Dido, queen of Carthage, who dies after being abandoned by Aeneas, the Trojan prince, who succumbs to the evil machinations of the Sorceress, mortal enemy to the queen.
